The Subproject for Girls, Adolescents, and Young Women, “Bancadas,” took part in the opening ceremony of World AIDS Day, with an exhibition showcasing the activities carried out under the Community Project for the Prevention of HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis.
During the event, the team distributed condoms and lubricants and held brief informational sessions on the correct use of condoms and their effectiveness in preventing sexually transmitted infections, with a focus on HIV.
The exhibition also highlighted the work carried out in the community “bancadas,” where participants address topics related to empowerment, life skills development, and the creation of small businesses. These activities support informed decision-making regarding sexuality and help reduce vulnerabilities and risks associated with sexual life within the communities.
Within the framework of World AIDS Day activities, the Community Project for the Prevention of HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis, implemented by ADPP Angola under the GC7 grant, conducted awareness sessions targeting officers and personnel of the Armed Forces in the provinces of Benguela and Bié.
In Lobito, Benguela, 72 military personnel participated in a lecture on the prevention of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, which also included voluntary counseling and testing services.
In Bié province, the Project team held an informational session at the 40th Military Division Unit in the city of Cuito, complemented by testing and condom distribution. The activities continue with new actions scheduled for other local services and institutions.
A team from the Global Fund to Angola carried out a technical mission to the provinces of Benguela, Cuanza Sul and Bié as part of the GC7 Community Project to Combat HIV/AIDS, implemented by ADPP Angola.
The mission covered the components of Bench Activities, Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission, Key Populations and Tuberculosis. Its purpose was to review and verify the quality of the data collected and to assess the progress achieved in the community activities carried out across the three provinces.
As part of the strategic reinforcement of community actions, the team from the Community Project for the Prevention of HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis carried out visits to Primary Schools No. 165 and Soba Capungo, where they met with the heads and teachers of the respective institutions.
During the meetings, the importance of involving the education sector in the fight against tuberculosis was highlighted, emphasising that prevention and awareness also depend on teachers, who interact daily with children from different families.
The school representatives expressed their full willingness to collaborate in the project’s activities, committing to support all actions that contribute to the well-being and health of the community.
During the month of August, the Community HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis Project intensified activities in the provinces of Benguela, Cuanza Sul and Bié, focusing on prevention, follow-up and treatment adherence.
Planning and community capacity-building sessions were held, bringing together local leaders and monitoring and evaluation technicians, fostering dialogue on strategies to combat the two diseases. The actions emphasized the importance of active community participation in the planning and implementation of initiatives.
In Benguela, the team carried out door-to-door visits, sample collection, counselling and voluntary testing, with priority given to pregnant women and mothers with babies. It also ensured the distribution of monthly incentives to participants under follow-up, reinforcing adherence to treatment. The province also hosted an advocacy meeting at the Monte Belo Disease Treatment Unit, with a focus on sample processing and updating lists of treatment dropouts.
In Bié, the Project collaborated in the quantification process of 1st- and 2nd-line drugs, in partnership with UNDP and the Provincial Health Office, strengthening the tuberculosis response and coordination among partners.
