Activities and Results of the Project

The first semester of 2018 was full of activity, from the graduation ceremony for Team 2015 in the presence of the Governor of Kuando Kubango, Sr Pedro Mutindi, to teaching practice in rural communities and the preparation by Team 2018 for their 12-week study
trip through Angola. Team 2016 is working at 20 primary schools around the province, combining teaching with community activities and micro projects. Team 2017 is gaining classroom experience at three local primary schools, running extracurricular
activities for the pupils and continuing with their pedagogical studies and courses. Team 2018 is currently travelling, having spent the first period of this semester preparing for their study tour both practically as well as academically.

Impact

Team 2017, now in their second year, demonstrate greater responsibility and know about needs and demands. Teaching practice adds a layer of responsibility for having to think daily about how best to teach this or that child in their class, how to translate into practice pedagogical theory studied or passed on in courses given by teachers.
Team 2016 already feel as though they are teachers and have grown in confidence in their daily tasks. The communities witness the evolution that their children have made and this is a source of pride for the trainees. They themselves feel the program has transformed them.
Team 2015 graduates keep in touch with the school and many express praise for the program and the school. Two are currently working as core group teachers, explaining in first person the experiences they gained which contributed to their development. In the province of Kuando Kubango, the school has achieved something of a name for the training program and the opportunities an education here opens up for successful graduates. In the graduation speech of Team 2015, the Governor of Kuando Kubango Province, Mr. Pedro Mutindi, highlighted the different way of teaching as demonstrated by ADPP teachers and promised to do what he could to help them be included in the
salary system as teachers.
