EPP Cabinda

Index

PP Cabinda is situated in Lândana and has been offering the EPP program since its introduction in 2011. Prior to this, the school taught a range of vocational courses.

EPP – Escola Polivalente e Profissional (Basic Academic and Practical School – teaches 7th, 8th and 9th grade subjects in combination with vocational training. The three courses on offer are Water Assistant, Modern Cook and Pre-school Assistant. A total of 124 students have graduated to date from EPP Cabinda. Out of them, 45 are female.

Project Activities and Results

The third team to follow this innovative course graduated in February 2016, with 42 students  receiving  their  certificates at a special ceremony held at neighboring EPF Cabinda. Of the 42, eight students had followed the Pre-school Assistant Course, 21 the Water Assistant Course and 13 the Modern Cook Course. Among the guests were the Vice Administrator of Cabinda Municipality, parents and guardians, the director of EPF Cabinda and students and teachers. There were songs and poems, the latter penned by the students and entitled How to be a Good Student, and some of the songs were in English, which impressed the visitors. Two students spoke about what they had learned over the three years, and there was a display made by the graduates to explain more about the EPP education. The head of the company `Algoa` gave a speech of thanks and presented a gift to each of the graduates.

The Effects of the Project

The school enjoys close links with the community and collaboration with the local labor market, both as regards work experience places and a means of learning about what the various companies in the province produce. The students also get to learn what the real world of work is like.

Relations with the municipal and provincial authorities are good. The authorities participate in  school  events and come  to the school  when  invited, and  the school  responds  to initiatives from the local administration. The school provides the decoration local events.
