Farmers’ Club Calandula
ADPP has been managing an Agricultural Training Center in Calandula, Malange since mid-2016. The project comprises an Agricultural School that functions as a resource center, 10 farmers’ clubs working with 500 farmers, and a program of fruit tree planting.
By October 2016, 554 farmers, 366 of whom are female, were registered in the 10 clubs, each of which has a club committee of five elected members. In the short time FC Calandula has existed, all members have been reached with initial training, and two thirds received their first individual field visit. Nutrition education was initiated in the latter part of 2016, as was health education, which concentrated on malaria to coincide with the onset of the rainy season. Irrigation systems are being established at model fields, and varieties of beans, corn, groundnut and okra were distributed to all clubs. Tree planting is going ahead, using saplings grown at the Center’s nursery.
