Women in Action, Caxito
The project is designed to improve skills and knowledge among women who have few opportunities to create a better life for themselves and their children. It is being implemented in Caxito Municipality, Bengo Province, in collaboration with the Provincial Department of the Family and the Promotion of Women (DIFAMU), and with funding from Sympany, Holland.
The goal is to enroll 120 women in the project, to learn and develop skills in all aspects of dressmaking, as well as receive training in literacy and in how to run a business. With this new set of accomplishments, the participants will increase their options for earning a decent living. For a full year after completion of the skills training, the women are mentored by the project as they seek to establish their own businesses. Courses in life skills and in sexual and reproductive health also form part of the project, helping the women make decisions that affect their own well-being and that of their family. In November 2016, the first 22 participants received their diplomas after successfully completing the course.
A Training Center in Caxito houses a classroom for lessons and a workshop equipped with sewing machines and other tools of the trade.
