Community Projects

The 1st year of a partnership between Haliburton and ADPP is complete. See the progress.

The objective of the program is to train teachers for primary schools in the Provinces of Cabinda, Zaire and Luanda. The future teachers are not only being trained to be good quality teachers but also to spearhead community development in the villages, where they are going to serve for many years in the future.
The partnership between Halliburton and ADPP Angola focuses on the last year of the education when the future teachers are practicing their skills in primary schools at the same time as they carry out community development projects.

- Training of 30 teachers a year – 10 in each of the 3 provinces

- Environmental Activities at Village Schools in Zaire and Luanda Provinces

- Gender and HIV Education in Village Schools in Cabinda Province.

- Establishment of Internet Connection and IT classroom at the Teacher Training College in Zaire.

At The End of Year One

  • 30 teachers have now finalized their education and are in January 2009 going through the final exams. In the last weeks of the month they will graduate together with a total of 228 new teachers at the 3 schools. Another 1.500 children will get access to primary school and the teachers will provide good education for about 3.000 children.
  • Environment Education has been carried out at 13 schools and communities in Luanda and 8 schools and communities in Zaire.
  • 60 teachers in Zaire and Luanda Provinces have been specialized as environmental educators.
  • 3.150 school children and family members have participated in courses about Global Warming and how to protect the environment through local actions.
  • 4.125 families have participated in tree planting actions in Luanda and Zaire. The result has been planting of 19.850 Moringa Trees.  Nurseries were established to produce the trees.
  • 375 families have participated in lessons about nutrition and how to use the Moringa Tree leafs.
  • 25 vegetable community gardens have been established.
  • 145 latrines have been constructed by teachers, students and families.
  • 15 fire saving stoves have been constructed by families that participated in courses about Global Warming.
  • Manuals about environmental activities distributed to all participating schools.
  • 14 Youth Clubs created in Cabinda Province.
  • Weekly lessons about Gender and HIV/AIDS in the schools where teacher students have been doing their school practice.
  • 2 Literacy Clubs for women providing knowledge about HIV/AIDS
  • 2 Literacy Clubs and HIV/AIDS preventive education for teenagers outside the school system.
  • HIV/AIDS preventive education for demobilized soldiers and their families
  • Mobilizing for Voluntary HIV tests.
  • An IT classroom has been established with 27 computers – thin clients. These “thin clients” are connected to a school server. 10 laptop computers.
  • Courses have been carried out for the teacher instructors in order for them to instruct the teacher students in use of the computers and the internet.
