Food for Education The USDA sponsored "Food For Education" program aims to improve nutrition, health and thereby education for 850,000 people.The project, which is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), was launched in March 2009 and is expected to start in the last quarter of the year. It is being implemented by Joint Aid Management (JAM) with ADPP Angola.
Running from 2009 through 2012, the programme will address issues of malnutrition, health, gender disparity, educational outcomes, and improved teacher training, as well as the development of a national policy framework for the Angolan national school-feeding program. It will be run in close cooperation with the Angolan government.
The main project acitivites include providing school meals for children, educating both the children and the wider community about health and nutrition and mobilizing them to take active steps to improve their situation.
The chief elements for which ADPP is responsible include: training 750 teachers, establishing vegetable gardens at 100 schools and mobilizing and educating the local community on health and nutrition issues. |
